Benalmadena is one of the most popular summer resorts on the Costa del Sol for a good reason. It comes with everything you can expect from this part of Spain: great weather all year round, access to a coastal line full of fabulous beaches and a harbour that competes with the charm of Marbella.

Visit Puerto Marina, where you can wander, or take a trip to the sea and see dolphins or just stop and enjoy many restaurants, bars and shops. Continue along Paseo Maritimo, which you can continue all the way to Torremolinos.  Benalmadena offers a lot of activities, including an amusement park, aquariums and one of the most visited casinos in Spain. And if you want to get away from everything, this diverse resort offers a stunning retreat: take the cable car to the top of the 769m-high Calamorro Mountain, or stroll around the lake in Paloma Park along with the peacocks roaming freely. 

Population

Officially, Benalmadena has a population 67,000 people. About a quarter of the people are foreigners, a third of whom are British.

Public health

There are two public clinics and a hospital in town – or, more precisely, in Arroyo de la Miel.

Transport

Benalmadena is located a 15-minute drive away from the center of Malaga and its airport. Public transport is very convenient, with regular bus services and a city railway running through the city going to Malaga and Fuengirola every 20 minutes.

Employment

Majority of the people in Benalmadena work in the areas of tourism, construction, and finance.

Shopping

Benalmadena is a city that loves shopping, and you will find a lot of shops here, regardless of your budget or taste. Most of the small shops are on the main street in the centre of Benalmadena and around the harbour. There is also a small shopping centre and a busy street market selling clothing, jewellery, shoes, toys, and food every Friday in Tivoli World.

Education

In addition to Spanish state education, there is also a selection of private international schools in the city, including the English Institute and the British University.

Cost of living

As the city enjoys tourists, you will find that prices are slightly higher than in some quieter places of the Costa del Sol. But with easy access to out-of-town shopping, you should be able to maintain your monthly budget.

Estate

Benalmadena is well known for its great estate potential, you will find affordable apartments in high-rise buildings or more expensive penthouses overlooking the sea.
